Guasa Therapy - A Brief History

History of Guasa Therapy started way back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). For over 1000 years, this traditional Chinese therapy has been widely used to treat various types of health issues and it has proven itself to be as effective as acupuncture treatments. Most importantly, throughout the history, with the right tools and techniques, guasa therapy has no known side effects apart from the scary looking "sa" (reddish spots) that will stay visible for a duration that ranges from 2 days to 2 weeks (the shorter the duration, the healthier the cell metabolism of the patient).
Sadly, such a wonderful therapy slowly loses its popularity among Chinese physicians, and slowly turns into "a home therapy passed down by grandparents". If you ask your Chinese friends, you'll find that many of them only know guasa therapy as a therapy that relief heat stroke. Only a handful of people actually knows the true benefit of guasa therapy. Here are the 3 reasons why guasa therapy's popularity deteriorates over time:
1. The scary looking "sa" - We all know that beauty is very important to many people, especially among the ladies, so guasa therapy became less and less popular among them because they felt that the "sa" looks ugly. There is a popular Chinese saying that directly translates to, "want beauty, don't want life". Beauty is more important than their health, so if it's going to effect their appearance, they rather continue to endure the health issue, or look for alternatives that won't effect their appearance. In these days, this is also true among many guys.
2. The "pain" during treatment - In general, people are afraid of pain. Guasa therapy looks painful in most cases, so many people are actually afraid of it. Just like kids who feared going for injection. It is not really that painful, but the fear couldn't be controlled.
3. It is too easy to learn - Due to it's simplicity, anyone can learn guasa therapy almost instantly. Though it takes some practice to actually master the scrapping strokes, but it is still one of the easiest therapy to learn. If you enrich your knowledge of meridian paths and meridian points, you can even use guasa therapy to treat various diseases. Since it is so simple to learn, Chinese physicians felt that guasa therapy is not "professional" enough, so they began to demerit guasa therapy and promotes acupuncture that made them look more "professional".
Since guasa is not very famous among the professionals, it is very difficult to obtain valuable information about it in bookstores or even online, especially if you are trying to look for guasa information in languages other than Chinese. Here in my blog, I would like to take this wonderful opportunity to offer my special thanks and gratitude to Elken Sdn Bhd for reviving this hidden treasure and returning it into the limelight where it rightfully belongs.
Introduction to Guasa Therapy
Definition of Guasa
The word, "guasa", is actually created from the combination of 2 Chinese words' pronunciation, "gua" and "sa". The word "gua" literally means "scrap" and the word "sa" literally means "sand". So guasa means scrapping sand? No, it doesn't. In fact, it has got nothing to do with sand at all. For some reason, the reddish dots that appeared on the surfaced of our skin during guasa looks like sand to them, so they named it sand. To avoid confusion, I will use "sa" instead. Just as its name implies, guasa is a therapy that make use of scrapping technique to achieve healing results, so it is also commonly known as the scrapping therapy. The "sa" that appears during guasa are indication of toxic and dead cells that were accumulated beneath our skin.  These "sa" causes blockage to the flow of "qi" (energy) in our meridian path.  When the flow of "qi" in our meridian pathway is not smooth, it will directly cause us to have poor blood circulation and this is where all other health issues follows.  Although guasa is not the only therapy that could restore meridian pathway's flow of "qi", it is the fastest, most effective and more importantly, a totally risk free therapy.
What are the tools required?

The only tool that you will need to perform guasa is a scrapping board that doesn't transmit heat and electrostatic charges. During Tang Dynasty and Ming Dynasty, the royal Chinese physicians use scrapping boards that are made of jade! Nowadays, we use scrapping boards that are made from water buffalo's horn. Compared to jade, water buffalo horn is just so much cheaper and it doesn't break as easily as jade. Most importantly, just like jade, water buffalo horn scrapping boards also doesn't transmit heat and electrostatic charges. This two properties are critical because it helps to prevent the therapist from absorbing the negative "qi" released by the patient's body. So make sure you do not try to use coin, rock, spoon, ceramic tools, plastic scrapping board or anything else to substitute the buffalo horn scrapping board.
If you need to perform guasa on naked skin, guasa oil will be needed to further enhance the therapeutic effect as well as to avoid damaging your skin with the repetitive scrapping. Good massage oil can be used as well, but proper guasa oil will be highly recommended.  Please refrain from using cooking oil and non-organic ointments.  The former could cause blockage of sweat glands as well as breathing difficulties to our cells until it is wiped off, while the later may cause allergic reactions on people with sensitive skin, damage our skin and even causes our cells to accumulate more chemical toxic.  The iron rule of thumb here: Always use the right tool for the task!
What is the "sa"?
Just as I have mentioned above, the "sa" is actually dead cells and toxic that our body accumulated within our body over time.  If your body is perfectly healthy, the "sa" that appeared on the scrapped area will only appear to be slightly reddish, like a blushing cheek, and it will disappear within minutes.  If the color of the "sa" is dark red or near black in color, it indicates that you've got a serious blockage in your meridian pathway and this also means that you've got a serious health issue.  If you want to know the health of your body, just take a look at the "sa" after your guasa session and you will have a very accurate overview of your health conditions and if your guasa therapist is knowledgeable and experienced, he/she could even tell you which organs of yours are more worn out.  According to guasa therapy, "sa" is the root cause of all health issues in our body. These "sa" will disrupt the flow of blood and "qi" (energy flow) in our body, hence causing us problems. According to Chinese wisdom, if the flow of blood is blocked, we will experience pain, and if the flow of "qi" is blocked, we will experience numbness. Seriously, we should stop taking drugs when we experience pain or other uncomfortable sensations. Our body is seeking our attention to repair the issues within when it sends us signals such as pain, numbness, dizziness, and so on. When we take drugs that suppress these symptoms, we are literally asking our body to shut up and turn a blind eye on the actual health issue.
How does guasa works?
The science behind guasa is simple and very straight forward, unblock the blocked flow of blood and "qi" and your health will be restored. While performing guasa, it will activate the meridian paths in our body, telling it to clear the blockage along its path. There are altogether 20 meridian paths (12 standard meridians that are directly associated with our internal organs, and 8 extraordinary meridians that are pivotal in the studies of QiGong, Tai Chi and Chinese Alchemy) in our body, out of which only 14 meridian paths formed by a total of 751 meridian points are needed in guasa therapy. These meridian paths are invisible vessels of energy in our body that is responsible in controlling the flow of blood and "qi". When performing guasa, we are actually scrapping the meridian paths that are invisible in human anatomy, and it should NOT be mistaken as scrapping our physical blood veins, blood arteries or blood vessels that are visible in human anatomy. The existence of of these meridian paths were being cast aside in the past as pseudoscience because they were being mistaken as anatomical drawings. However, recent science has finally cleared the misunderstanding and caught up to this ancient wisdom. The existence of these meridian paths are now scientifically proven to exist.
The 12 standard meridians (grouped with accordance to their yin & yang nature, and the time frame indicates the time when they are most active) paths are:
1. Lung Meridian (Yin, 3am-5am)
2. Heart Meridian (Yin, 11am-1pm)
3. Pericardium Meridian (Yin, 7pm-9pm)
4. Spleen Meridian (Yin, 9am-11am)
5. Kidney Meridian (Yin, 5pm-7pm)
6. Liver Meridian (Yin, 1am-3am)
7. Triple Warmer/Triple Burner Meridian (Yang, 9pm-11pm)
8. Small Intestine Meridian (Yang, 1pm-3pm)
9. Big Intestine Meridian (Yang, 5am-7am)
10. Gal Bladder Meridian (Yang, 11pm-1am)
11. Urinary Bladder Meridian (Yang, 3pm-5pm)
12. Stomach Meridian (Yang, 7am-9am)
The 2 extraordinary meridians are:
1. Conception Vessel (Ren Mai)
2. Governing Vessel (Du Mai)
What are the benefits of guasa therapy?
Many people only know that guasa therapy as a message technique for relieving heat stroke issues or just for releasing the excessive 'heat' from the body. The reason for that is because their guasa knowledge is being taught by their great grandparents, who probably self-taught their guasa knowledge through observation and word of mouth. In actual fact, guasa has these 10 benefits:
1. Promote metabolism and oxygen intake - Guasa therapy can be used as a form of aerobic exercise for our entire body cells. Good cell metabolism and high oxygen intake will ensure that our cells can carry out their tasks effectively.  Of course, if you pair this up with a healthy diet, you will be amazed on how healthy you could be.
2. Relieve sore muscles, joint pains and lethargy - Guasa therapy is good for all sorts of sports injuries that doesn't involve bleeding, cuts, wounds, fractured bones, dislocated joints or broken bones. If you sprained your muscles, sprained a part of your body (wrist, arm, feet, etc.), have stiff neck or shoulders, muscle cramp, or feels lethargy, guasa is an excellent treatment that provides instant relief. During the Olympics, which was held in Beijing in 2008, guasa therapy is used to treat athletes who sprained themselves, had muscle cramps, or experience lethargy right before competition starts, allowing them to continue to participate in their competition without any issue.

Give relief to symptoms of illnesses or diseases - A guasa therapy handbook, written by a reputable Taiwanese guasa therapist, recorded 400 types of clinically proven guasa therapy techniques that can give relief to symptoms of illnesses or diseases such as migraine, menstrual issue, high blood pressure, diabetes, gout, stroke, erectile dysfunction, gastric, and asthma, just to name a few.  If you are interested to become a guasa physicists, you should apply for some guasa courses to get yourself certified.  However, I personally think that guasa therapy is better off as a health regulation therapy rather than a disease treatment therapy like acupuncture.  Regulating our overall health to slowly regain a totally healthy body is better than just treating a specific disease to quickly get rid of its symptoms.
10. Pinpoint the source of a disease - This is another great benefit of guasa therapy that most people do not know. Guasa therapy is able to pinpoint the source of diseases way before it even get to the point of being labelled as a disease. Hence it is an excellent form of preventive therapy. Guasa therapy allows you to grasp the general health conditions of your internal organs, allowing you to prevent them from getting worse. While diagnosing your health, guasa therapy is also correcting your health issue at the same time.

The Three Types of Guasa Therapy

Guasa therapy is generally divided into 3 categories, guasa massage, diagnostic guasa, and disease treatment guasa. In step 2 of Elken's MRT Concept, only guasa massage and diagnostic guasa techniques are being taught because MRT concept is all about health management, so we should leave the treatment part back to doctors or physicians.  We should always seek advice from the proper channel.  For medical advice you should find a doctor, for water advice you should find a water specialist, for nutritional advice you should find a nutritionist, for guasa advice you should find a guasa therapist and so on.  Don't try to act as a pharmacist/doctor, if you aren't one, and prescribe medicines yourself.  Medication suppression and control of illnesses/diseases symptoms are the job of doctors, but restoration and optimization of our own health is our own responsibilities.  Let us look at the 3 types of guasa therapy.
The 1st type - Guasa Massage
This guasa technique is the technique that is used in beauty saloons. Guasa massage can be performed on a daily basis without the need to worry about the "sa" showing up. For facial beauty guasa massage, we may perform the massage while using cream type facial mask, and it only takes less than 3 minutes to complete. Guasa massage on our head, arms, legs, lower back and abdomen can be performed on our own, at anytime of the day, and on a daily basis. If you wish to do a more thorough guasa massage for your entire back, you'll need an assistant. A full body guasa massage only takes less than 30 minutes to complete (20 strokes for each meridian paths). In step 2 of Elken's MRT concept, 2 types of guasa massage techniques are being taught:
1. The 12 Meridians Guasa Exercise - Simple guasa massage techniques that activates the 14 meridian paths in our body, allowing us to do aerobic exercise for not only our external body, but also our internal organs.
2. Hot Guasa Spa - A special, body shaping & slimming massage technique that is uniquely taught in Elken.
The 2nd type - Diagnostic Guasa
This guasa technique requires an assistant because it needs to be carried out on the entire back of an individual. Diagnostic guasa CANNOT be carried out on a daily basis because we'll need to wait until our body fully metabolism the "sa" before we can repeat the process.  Diagnostic guasa can review the health condition of our internal organs, specifically our heart, lung, gut, liver, stomach, spleen, kidneys and if you're female, it also shows the health condition of your ovary.  Although it is called a diagnostic guasa, it allows our body to work on the health issues at the same time.  Unlike western diagnostic technologies that only tells you what is wrong with your body, diagnostic guasa tells you what is wrong and enable your body to start fixing it immediately at the same time.  There are 2 reasons why we cannot do diagnostic guasa on a daily basis:
1. We may injure our body as we did not give it sufficient time to process the "sa". If you haven't done any sports for a long period of time and you suddenly went for an aggressive sport session, you'll be experiencing muscle pain the very next day. The same situation applies when you perform diagnostic guasa. The next day, the individual will be experiencing muscle pain on the areas where diagnostic guasa is being carried out. So you would be experiencing unnecessary pain if you forcefully do another guasa session the next day.
2. Our body would be too busy processing the "sa" so there is no point trying to give it even more work to do. Besides, the automatic survival mechanism in our body will also prevent our body from releasing more "sa".
So there is absolutely no point in trying to do diagnostic guasa everyday. You can still do the 12 meridians guasa exercise on other parts of your body though.  Diagnostic guasa needs to be paired up with colon detoxification in order to gain the most benefits out of it.  Diagnostic guasa services is quite common in typical reflexology centers.  However, they usually only provide a 30-45mins guasa session, which not only may not reveal the real "sa" but also do not come with a proper colon detoxification package.
Diagnostic guasa is not complete without a proper colon detoxification because these toxic would not accumulate if our body was capable of removing it in the first place. Due to the limited capacity of our detoxification systems, the extra toxic are temporarily accumulated in the body until it has the time to process it.  However, we intoxicate our body nearly every seconds (air pollution, water pollution and chemical/toxic rich food), so our body not only has no time to process these accumulated toxic, but also continues to accumulate more and more of them.  During diagnostic guasa, we are actually assisting our body to dig out these toxic so we also need to ensure that our colon has the capability to flush them out of our body because these toxic will reach our colon after 12 hours.  If these toxic are not flushed out, our body will store it again, hence you will experience less improvement in your health condition.
If we only perform diagnostic guasa alone, majority of the toxic that are dug out will remain in the body, which is why many people get the misconception that once you started treating your health issue with guasa therapy, you will become addicted to it and your body will not feel comfortable without going for your weekly guasa session.  If you perform a complete diagnostic guasa session (guasa + colon detox), you will notice significant improvements in your overall health within 2-8 sessions depending on how severe your health conditions were.
The 3rd type - Disease Treatment Guasa
This guasa technique requires a more in-depth knowledge of the 12 meridian paths, including the 751 acupuncture points along all these meridian paths.  If you can read Chinese, you're lucky, there is a book called "Guasa 400 ling chuang" (400 clinical studies of guasa) that documented very detailed guasa treatment method for over 400 types of diseases ranging from minor illnesses such as headache, coughing, cold or flu to life threatening diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, stroke and so on.  The book also describes the symptoms of each and every illnesses in detail, so once you have confirmed which illness/disease your patient is suffering, you may follow the guidance in the book to carry out treatment guasa.  Treatment guasa has an effectiveness that is on par with acupuncture, but personally, I feel that diagnostic guasa is the most important aspect of guasa therapy.

Good Guasa Practices

Since we are just focusing on guasa massage and guasa diagnostic, so below are a few things that we should take note of:
1. Use the right tool for the task - Avoid using guasa boards that are made of any other materials that are not real jade or real water buffalo horn. Make sure that proper guasa oil is used, especially for diagnostic guasa.
2. Always perform guasa massage in a spacious enclosed room - During guasa, our sweat gland will open up, allowing it to release excessive heat, negative energy and even sweat. Therefore, the room should be enclosed, but not suffocating, and most importantly, don't point any fan or air sources directly at the area where guasa massage is performed. This is to avoid external winds from entering our body via the opened sweat gland. The same reason why we shouldn't be cooling ourselves in front of a fan right after sports. It may feel good, but you'll regret it in the future when you get rheumatism.
3. The person who is performing diagnostic guasa should always stand either on the left or right side of the individual throughout the guasa session. The person performing diagnostic guasa must refrain from standing directly behind the individual's back to minimize the absorption of negative energy.
4. Guasa massage and diagnostic guasa is similar to aerobic sports, so do NOT do it while you are on an empty stomach, or when you are fasting. There shouldn't be any problem to perform guasa massage on empty stomach, unless you have starved a few days, but performing diagnostic guasa on empty stomach (haven't eaten for over 8 hours) could cause the person, who has a weak body, to faint.  If the person haven't eaten anything for over 8 hours, it is better to make some light cereal drink for the person to drink before carrying out diagnostic guasa on them.
5. Diagnostic guasa should not be performed during pregnancy to avoid the possibilities that some of the released toxic would ended up in the baby.  Of course, this is just a possibility, but it is better to be safe than sorry.
6. If you ever went through operation to replace bones with mechanical parts, do NOT perform guasa therapy on those areas. The sharp edges of the mechanical parts could inflict internal injuries or wounds. So again, better be safe than sorry.
7. After guasa session, one should drink a glass of warm water. Water plays an important role in detoxification, so drinking a glass of warm water will allow our body to process the "sa" more effectively.
8. Do NOT shower straight away after a guasa session. To be on the safe side, please wait at least 1 hour after the guasa session. 30 minutes is actually sufficient for most people especially athletes or people who do sports regularly.
9. After performing diagnostic guasa, use guasa oil to clean the guasa board, do NOT use water or soapy water. Good guasa oil has antibacterial property and can help to prolong the lifespan of guasa board. Using water will cause the guasa board to become too moist, making it bad for the next person who receive diagnostic guasa with it.
10. Guasa therapy is NOT complete without detoxification. We need to ensure that the "sa" are successfully flushed out of our body, therefore detoxification is a MUST after any session of diagnostic guasa or disease treatment guasa. The detoxification that we are talking about here is non other than replenishing our colon with beneficial bacteria. Taking slimming detox tea, hi-fiber detox products, or any other detoxification products that doesn't replenish our colon's beneficial bacteria is utterly USELESS. Guasa therapy works best with a healthy colon, and the ONE and ONLY way to ensure that our colon is healthy is ensuring that it has sufficient beneficial bacteria, without which our colon is as good as a car without an engine.

Below are some of my accomplishments in Guasa Therapy:
1. I cured my own asthma-like health issue that has haunted me for over 26 years.  It took roughly 4 sessions including the first session that was performed by my guasa master.  I did the other 3 guasa sessions myself and that's how I started learning guasa.
2. I taught a chinese physician, who is also a certified guasa therapist, how to cure her migraine issue and even shared some of my guasa knowledge with her.  Surprisingly, she does not know much about guasa even though she has a certificate for it.
3. I helped a few people to restore their arm's mobility.  Some of them couldn't fully raise their arm, some of them experience pain when lifting their arms, some of them couldn't lift heavy objects and some of them simply just injured their arm due to excessive sports activity.  My mom had a strange incident where her left thumb suddenly couldn't move after she nearly twisted her wrist while she was doing house chores.  After just one guasa session, her thumb is back to normal again.
4. I helped a few people, including my own father, to restore their legs' issue.  My father used to experience a mixture of numbness, discomfort and tingling sensations in his legs whenever he sits down for over 10 minutes.  After around 6 sessions of guasa, his legs are totally fine now.  I ever helped an uncle who drop by my master's guasa demo classes, to cure his leg's rheumatism.  There is also a case of an uncle who experiences pain in his leg, but no doctors has been able to identify the cause as they couldn't detect anything through their various scanning tests.  When I guasa for him, half of his calf reveals huge clusters of dark colored "sa" and when my guasa master saw it, my master told me that those are signs of internal injuries.  When we asked the uncle whether he has had any serious accident previously, he told us that he accidentally slipped his leg into a drainage a few years ago.  Although the leg appeared to have healed, the internal injuries remained.  Similar to my personal case, it again proves that guasa can completely cure internal injuries which are undetectable by x-ray and even CT scan.
5. I helped 2 of my father's friends, who has difficulties moving one of their arm and leg due to stroke, to improve their mobility.  Besides their arm and leg mobility, I also helped them to improve their speech clarity.  They already spent a lot on other medical aid (acupuncture, acupressure, tui na and medication) previously for over 6 months with little improvements, but noticed quite significant improvements after 4 sessions (4 weeks) of my guasa.

Elken MRT Concept - The 4 Simple Steps

Just as I have promised in my previous blog entitled, "The Holistic Health Solution, Molecular Reform Therapy (MRT)", I will elaborate more on the 4 steps of Elken's MRT concept. Before we proceed to the details of the 4 steps of Elken's MRT concept, I would like to give a brief explanation on why MRT concept focuses on the health of cell and what are the most fundamental requirements for any living organism to live.

What is our body made of?

The human body is made up of 60-80 trillion cells and all these cells are actually living in a bio-terrain, known as "interior milieu" or "interior terrain". If you take a look at any part of our body under a strong electronic microscope, you will find that we not as solid as we think we are. Our body is actually made up of almost 80% liquid! All these 60-80 trillion cells are actually immersed and surrounded by a layer of bio-terrain instead of being connected to each other side by side. Cell is the core of our entire body and the bio-terrain is the living environment for our cells. Our body cells can be divided into 3 main groups:
Soft cells - organs, skin, muscles, hair, etc.
Solid cells - bones, nails & teeth
Liquid cells - blood
Similar cells group up together to form tissue, and similar group of tissues will form an organ. When two or more organs are linked together, they became a system that performs specific function in our body. With all these systems working together to support each other, our human body is thus formed. Therefore, having healthy cell and healthy bio-terrain are the two most important factor of all because they are the very core foundation of our entire body.

The Most Fundamental Requirement of for any Living Organism to Live

As we all know, every living organism needs these 4 most fundamental requirements to live:
1. Air - normal human can barely survive pass 5 minutes without air
2. Water - normal human can only survive 3-5 days without water
3. Food - normal human can only survive roughly 2 weeks without any food
4. A suitable living environment - human can somewhat find ways to adapt to almost any environment on earth as long as air, water and food are easily available, and provided the environment is not dangerously hazardous.
There may be some extremely rare species that could survive for an amazing period of time under the most extreme conditions such as no water, no air, no food or deadly living environment, but that is a matter of survival, not health. For any living organism to live a healthy life, all these 4 fundamental requirements need to be full filled at all time. Our body cells also need them in order to be healthy.

The 4 Steps of Elken's MRT Concept:

I am sure that almost everyone of us knows very well that in order to be healthy, we need to eat healthy food, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, live a happy life, have a healthy lifestyle and stays in a pollution free environment. However, how many of us knows exactly what all that means? You can be eating "healthy" food, but still not getting enough nutrients. You can be drinking plenty of water, but still having dehydration problem or still ending up with kidney issues. You can be a world class athlete, following a healthy diet menu from top nutritionists, but still getting chronic diseases. You can be living a healthy lifestyle, but still end up being unhealthy. So what went wrong? What is missing in the puzzle? All the answers can be found in these 4 steps:

Step 1: Balanced Nutrient

When doctors told their patients to go on a healthy diet, the usual reaction would be something in the line of; I need to lower my sugar intake, I need to lower my salt intake, I need to stop taking oily or deep fried food, I need to eat 7-9 portions of fruits and vegetables a day, I need to control my intake of alcoholic drinks, I need to follow the food pyramid, I need to supplement the vitamins & minerals that I am lacking, etc. All these directions aren't totally wrong, but there is more to it.
What does balanced nutrient actually means? Here is the first missing pieces of "healthy diet". According to step 1 of Elken's MRT Concept, balanced nutrient actually means providing our cells with balanced portion of the 46 essential nutrients (8 types of amino acids, 18 types of vitamins & 20 types of minerals) that it needs everyday. In these days, the era of 21st century, getting these 46 essential nutrients from our daily food intake is almost near to impossible! We live in an era of fast food, processed food, GMO food, toxic food (food that comes with free herbicide, pesticide, insecticide, growth hormones, artificial flavorings, artificial colors, preservatives, and other harmful chemicals) and nutrient deprived food. It will cost us a fortune to obtain these 46 essential nutrients from our daily food intake nowadays. The general guidelines to ensure that you obtained all 46 essential nutrients are as follows:
1. Follow the food pyramid guideline and ALL your food must be 100% organic
2. You need to consume vegetables from 5 different color groups (red, yellow/orange, green, white & black/purple). Eat them raw if possible or cook with low temperature.
3. You need to consume whole fruits from various different color groups (red, yellow/orange, green, blue, purple, black, white).
4. You need to consume 7-9 portions of fruits and vegetables a day
At this point, some of you may be thinking of this, "Wait a minute. My ancestors never ate that much food in a day, never knew about the food pyramid, and they lived healthily past 100 years old!" I am sorry to tell you that, you are no longer living in the era of your ancestors. Your ancestors eat mostly organic food (free from pesticide, herbicide, insecticide, preservatives, growth hormones, and non-GMO), they exercise a lot everyday, they live in areas that are surrounded by plants, their water & air are less polluted, they sleep early & wake up early everyday, and their life is less stressful. It is also noteworthy that living a long life does not necessarily mean living a healthy life. It is NOT necessary for an elderly person to have health issues such as poor eyesight, bad hearing, weak limbs, joint pain issues, etc. Our body may age, but it doesn't mean it is "normal" to have health issues when we get old. We have been brain-washed to believe that when we reached certain age, it is perfectly "normal" to have health issues such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, joint pain, poor eyesight, back pain, fragile bones, etc. All these abnormalities have been casually brushed off as the "norms" by health experts that we entrusted our health issues to. If you are in the late 40s, when you go for a medical check up and is diagnosed to have slightly high blood pressure, slightly high cholesterol level and slightly high blood sugar, chances are, your doctor may tell you that it is "normal" for people of your age to have these issues. Your doctor may even add that you are considered "very healthy" as many others have much worse readings. When a lady is pregnant and is diagnosed with temporary diabetes or other health issues, the doctor will also brush it off as a common, "normal" reaction due to hormone changes. Are all these really "normal"? Of course they are NOT normal. We are NOT supposed to have health issues when we get old. We are SUPPOSED to remain healthy until our very last breath. Without the knowledge of MRT concept, I too, could have been one of the victims who would blindly believe that we are supposed to have health issues as we grow older. From my previous blog, "The Holistic Health Solution, Molecular Reform Therapy" i already mentioned that MRT advocates that the human body will not fall sick as long as our cells receive all their essential needs (balanced nutrients, oxygen & pure water) regularly and are free from metabolic abnormalities. This holds true regardless of our age.
So am I doomed to live an unhealthy life if I couldn't follow the 4 general guidelines of daily food intake above? Don't worry, there are always some other alternatives. Our mother nature has prepared the perfect food for us ever since pre-historic ages. According to step 1 of Elken's MRT Concept, the easiest and healthiest way to obtain these 46 essential nutrients is of course through consumption of Elken's Spirulina. Why is interior terrain so important?
1. It is the world that our cells live in. Imagine that our body is an aquarium, interior terrain is the water inside the aquarium and our cells are the fish that live in the aquarium.
2. It determines how healthy our cell grows. If you compare the health status of someone who lives in a busy city surrounded by sky scrappers and the health status of someone who lives deep in the mountain, surrounded by nature, it is not surprising that the one who lives in healthy environment is much healthier than the one who lives in highly polluted environment. Despite having less or no access to modern medicine facilities, someone who lives in a healthy environment will always prevail in health.
3. It influences the ability of our cells to metabolize. Our environment greatly effects our efficiency in carrying out our daily works. If you are trying to record an album, you would want to be in a sound proof room with all your musical equipment working properly. If you are trying to take a shower, you would want to be in a bathroom with clean water access. If you to have a rest, you would prefer a place that you could sit or lie down comfortably. This is also true with our cells. If our cells are immersed in a healthy environment, it would be able to carry out it's tasks flawlessly with much greater efficiency.
4. It governs the communication ability among our cells. Imagine the interior terrain as the wireless signal from your broadband supplier. When the signal is strong, and your system is fully optimized, you would be able to browse the web and carry out all your online tasks at top speed. When there are interruptions to the signal, you may lost your connection or it will take much longer for you to complete your online tasks. Our cells needs to communicate with each other to allow our brain to know what is going on in the body. Therefore, a healthy interior terrain is important to ensure that our brain is being notified the instant something went wrong. If these communication fails, it could mean a delay in the repair, and it could also lead to a fatal situation where it is beyond repair.
How can I restore the interior terrain to a healthy state?
The ONE and ONLY way to restore the interior terrain of our body is by replenishing the essential traces elements that it consists of. Step 2: Increased Oxygen Intake

Once we have full-filled the "healthy diet" requirements, we need to look into the "exercise regularly" requirements. As we all know, we can't live without air. At first glance on step 2, this thought may have crossed your mind, "Are you going to tell me that there is a secret method of breathing?". Anyway, the answer is NO. Step 2 is not about breathing exercise or any top secret breathing method, if you do know any special breathing technique that is beneficial to health, I would be interested to hear about it. Step 2 of Elken's MRT concept is actually about ensuring that the supply of oxygen throughout your body is sufficient. Our main organ in our respiratory system is our lung. Our lung has many functions, but one of its most important role is that it is responsible in obtaining oxygen from the air we breath and pass them into our blood stream to be distributed to the 60-80 trillion cells in our body.
When we were told to exercise regularly, the real message behind it is actually to increase the oxygen intake of our body. The sweating part is a plus, but it is definitely not the main purpose of doing exercise. Exercises are divided into 2 main categories, aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic exercises are exercises that promotes oxygen flow to our cells. Anaerobic exercises, however, are exercises that depletes oxygen from our cells. Therefore, it is important to ensure that you are actually doing regular aerobic exercises instead of anaerobic exercises as that would backfire your main purpose of exercising, which is to increase oxygen intake. The general rules of thumb for aerobic exercise are as follows:
1. Do the exercise for at least a 30 minutes session
2. Do the exercise at least 3 times a week
3. Monitor your heartbeat during exercise, ensuring that it exceeds 120 bpm.
In step 2 of Elken's MRT Concept, there are two ways for us to achieve increased oxygen intake. One of them is Guasa Therapy, which is actually a traditional Chinese therapy that has all the benefits and therapeutic effect of acupuncture minus the risks that acupuncture possesses, and the other method is through oral consumption of stabilized oxygen supplement.

Step 3: Detoxification

Detoxification is one of the most famous health care steps out there. Advancement in technology brings lots of convenience and comfort to our daily life, but at the same time, technology also brings destruction to our health. Nowadays, our body is being exposed to. far too much toxic such as growth hormones, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, preservatives, artificial flavorings, artificial colors, heavy metals, harmful chemicals and even traces of drugs. Therefore, it is not surprising at all that there are plenty of detox formula out there, maybe more than enough for an individual to try out a new detox formula everyday for a few years. Before we even begin to choose a detox method, let us first look at the detoxing systems that our body is equipped with.
1. Skin - our largest detoxing organ that helps us to detox in the form of sweat
2. Liver - our largest multi-functional chemical processing factory that is responsible for the majority of detoxification process in our body
3. Kidney - cleanses our blood and flush out toxic via bladder
4. Lung - filtering the air that we breath in and releases carbon dioxide

Doing some simple exercises are all it takes to allow our skin to start detoxing our body, so just spare some time for it. If you are too lazy to spare time for exercise, other more relaxing options such as sauna, hot spring, and spa treatments are available too, but at higher costs.
2. Liver - Our liver is an amazing and very special organ in our body. It is the only organ that doesn't feel pain and it has the ability to fully regrow itself even if 2/3 of it is being cut off. Our liver is a very sophisticated organ that dealt with hundreds of different processes. How can we help such an amazing multi-tasking organ? We just have to provide it with all the nutrients and phyto-nutrients that it needs to carry out its tasks. There are numerous liver detoxification programs out there. Some herb based, some fruits based, some vegetable based, some are mixture of fruits and vegetables and there are even some that are chemical based. A simple rule to follow here, stay away from anything that is not 100% organic when it comes to liver.
3. Kidney - This organ detox through our urinary bladder, and it works like a blood filter inside our body. Hence, drinking pure water/reverse osmosis water is one of the best thing we could do to allow our kidney to carry out its detoxification while lightening its burdens at the same time, as there is no need for them to filter pollutants in our drinking water. Definition of Molecular Reform Therapy

Molecular Reform Therapy (MRT) is a holistic health concept, and its name pretty much self-defines.
Molecular - This term simply refers to the 60-80 trillion cells that formed our human body
Reform - Our body has the ability to heal itself. Here, reform simply means restoring or correcting our body's self healing ability, letting our one and only real doctor to heal itself.
Therapy - A natural healing therapy that addresses the cause of health issues at it's cellular level without the use of any drugs.
Since MRT is a holistic health concept that focuses on health at cellular level, it is also commonly known as Cell Reform Therapy.

History of Molecular Reform Therapy

Back in 1970's, chronic diseases have plagued modern society at an alarming rate for few decades despite all the advancement in medical science and technology. The issue was so serious that the US President demanded American Congress to form a Special Committee of Nutrient Investigation (SCNI) in 1975 to come out with a solution. Lead by Dr. Linus Pauling, the committee consists of over 2000 top specialists, whose specialization are related or have influence on human body, is formed. Among them are doctors, surgeons, scientists, psychologists, acupuncturists, archaeologists, nutritionists, engineers and physicists, just to name a few. This is how the holistic health concept, Molecular Reform Therapy, is born.

What's so special about this Molecular Reform Therapy?

In the 21st century, therapies that focuses on cellular level's health is not new. However, due to the heavy influence of modern medicine, almost all of these therapies are either targeting specific disease/symptom or only focuses on specific elements, and one of the most popular element that is being focused on is anti-oxidant.

Modern Medicine's Approach to Health Issues

Before I start off with my topic, I would like to clarify a few things first:
1. The content of this blog post is purely my personal understanding of Modern Medicine's Approach to Health Issue. It is by no means a scientifically proven theory, nor a hypothesis made by any health experts. I am just sharing what I understand and believed to be true about modern medicine's approach to health issue, through my personal experiences, which I gained through books, health seminars and personal researches.
2. I am not a doctor, surgeon, nutritionist, MD, PhD, or well-known health expert. I am just an ordinary individual with 2 Engineering degrees and Master in Sociology, and is aiming to build my career in the health field. The reason for my interest in health is simple and straight forward; I was tortured by health problems since young, and I do not want my parents, siblings, friends, and our future generations to be tortured by health issues, which could be prevented.  Modern medicine's approach couldn't help my family, relatives, friends and myself much, but I am grateful that it helped me to survive until I found my answer to health - the holistic health concept, Molecular Reform Therapy.
3. This topic is a sharing of my knowledge regarding modern medicine's approach in health issue, so I do welcome all experts from various medical or nutritional background to share your honest opinions regarding the conclusion that I've reached so far.
4. I am not trying to deny the importance and achievements of modern medicine, nor am I trying to badmouth it. I am just trying to clarify what modern medicine actually do to our body as well as what it doesn't do to our body.

Modern Medicine's Approach to Health Issues

In the ancient days before modern medicine came into the limelight, people have been depending on supernatural power/rituals, mixture of herbs and some other traditional practices to fight against illnesses/diseases. As science advances, modern medicine quickly overtake the traditions and with its great success in "curing" diseases, everyone starts to hail modern medicine as if it is a gift from heaven. Drugs, vaccine, surgeries, chemo therapy, radiation therapy, x-ray, and many more high-tech discoveries of modern medicine stormed the hospital and become the one-stop solution for patients, seeking for help to battle their health issue. Since very young age, we are all taught to look for doctors to get healthy, but does modern medicine really make you healthy?
The first most important message that I would like to emphasize here is, "Modern Medicine may cure your illnesses/diseases, but it doesn't actually makes you healthy". It is very important to know the difference between "not sick" and "healthy". Being healthy doesn't just mean being free from sickness/illnesses/diseases. It is also important to realize that the names/terms that we used to call a certain sickness/illness/disease are actually just a label that is used by doctors to identify/classify a special group/groups of symptoms. These symptoms do not always means that we are sick. These symptoms are actually the only way that our body could communicate with us to inform us that they are in the process of fixing some issues or they are trying to tell us that we are not providing our body with what it needs to carry out its tasks. Due to our ignorance towards our own health, many of us never even bothered to try to understand the root cause or the real meaning behind these symptoms. Instead, we just look for any quick-fix solutions that could eliminate these symptoms. When we experience headache, we look for pain killers, when we experience stomach discomfort, we look for drugs to soothe the discomfort, when we have inflammations, we are given anti-inflammation drugs, when we are infected, we are given antibiotics, and so on. Most of them work wonders, stop the pain, kills the virus, lowers your blood pressure, makes you feel better, but no matter how effective it is in eliminating/suppressing the symptoms, it doesn't change the fact that it doesn't make you any healthier.
So what are modern medicine actually doing if it is not making us healthy? Let us first defines what it means to be healthy and what are the conditions that we need to fulfill to be considered as healthy.
According to WHO (World Health Organization), they defines health with the following 3 conditions:
1. The individual's body must not experience any discomfort or pain
2. The individual must be energetic and is able to concentrate well on whatever they are doing, from morning till bedtime.
3. The individual must have a healthy social life.
From Molecular Reform Therapy's point of view, health begins from the smallest part of our body, our cells. Therefore being healthy simply means that every single cells in our body and the environment that our cells live are healthy. Cells form tissue, tissues form organ, organs form a system, and systems operates our body. If our cells are healthy, our body is healthy. In order for our cells to be healthy, they must meet the following conditions:
1. Balanced nutrient intake, including sufficient oxygen and drinking water
2. Healthy lifestyle (regular aerobic exercises, good sleeping habit, good eating habit, good working postures, and no bad habits such as heavy drinking, smoking or taking illegal drugs)
3. Psychologically & spiritually healthy (good social life, peaceful mind and free from stress)
With these information, the definition of health should be quite clear. Now, let us move on to see how modern medicine has been tackling health issues all these while. Generally, modern medicine only uses the following methods:
1. Any health issue related to pain, you will be given pain killers. What does pain killers do? Stop the pain, obviously. Does pain killers cure the root cause of the pain? The answer is definitely, no. Everyone who has taken pain killer knows very well that the pain will return once the drug's effect wears off. So how do we actually recover from sickness such as headache after taking pain killers? It is all thanks to our body's self healing ability, not the pain killer. What pain killer does is that it temporarily suppresses the pain you are experiencing, by cutting off the signals that inform your brain regarding the issue. Imagine that your body is a building and your body's immune system is the fire alarm system of the building. The pain you experience is the ringing sound of the fire alarm bell. When you take a pain killer, you are actually chopping off the cables to prevent the fire alarm from ringing. By preventing the fire alarm from ringing, you are not only unable to put out the fire that started the alarm, but are also risking other's life as they may be staying inside the building, thinking that it is a false alarm. This is exactly the same scenario as taking pain killer to suppress the pain. It is not only useless (in terms of curing the actual cause), but also bad for your health. If you continue to take pain killers to suppress the actual issue, you will end up taking stronger and stronger version of pain killers until they finally doesn't work anymore no matter how much you take.
2. A more complicated disease such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart attack etc., are well-known to be incurable diseases through modern medicine approach. Although incurable, modern medicine came out with solutions that allows them to keep these diseases under control via their functional drugs. These drugs could command our body to perform specific functions such as increasing/decreasing heart beat, reducing red blood cell's concentration, lowering blood pressure, increase/decrease the production of certain substances, etc., and some of these drugs are imitation of the substances in our body, such as insulin and hormones. Whenever you seek for modern medicine's help regarding these incurable health issues, you will be advised to switch to a healthy diet and lifestyle while using drugs to suppress the symptoms of these diseases to a safer level. If you chose to ignore the advises to switch to a healthy diet and lifestyle, and just continue to control the disease with drugs, it is as if you are trying to wrap fire with paper.  Doctors had done their part - telling you to switch to healthy lifestyle and prescribed you medication - but the former is often neglected, partly due to the lack of nutrition knowledge among doctors.  It is definitely not their fault because they are just following whatever knowledge that they were taught and told to be important, but unfortunately, nutrition is not in the important list.
3. As for life threatening diseases like cancer, regardless of what type of cancer it is, there are basically 2 treatment options to choose from, non surgery and surgery. For non surgery options, we are all too familiar with the treatments - chemo therapy (making use of strong poisonous drugs to attempt to kill the cancerous cells) and radiation therapy (making use of radiation technology to attempt to kill the cancerous cells). Both of these methods are unable to distinguish between cancerous and non cancerous cells, so these treatment approach is basically asking the patients to pray that the non cancerous cells will miraculously survive these deadly treatment and re-produce new healthy cells. Having the guts to fight cancerous cells with poison and radiation is quite a bold approach, but bear in mind that these approach is never meant to help the patient to regain their health in the first place. These approach is just an extreme measure taken by modern medicine to attempt to prolong or increase the patient's survival rate by destroying the cancerous cells. Therefore they should never be mistaken as a cure for cancer.  Modern medicine's cancer treatment is akin to bombing the entire neighbourhood (without evacuating anyone) when one building is being identified as housing dangerous terrorists.  Would you call that an act to rescue (cure) the city?
4. As for any other diseases or health conditions that require surgery options, this is again another drastic measures to save life. Unlike machines, human body cannot be replaced easily. There is a saying, "replicas can never match the originals in performance & quality". Even if organ transplant surgery is successful, the patient needs to be monitored consistently for after surgery complications, and they need to be extra careful with their food and drinks. Modern medicine has advanced so much in their surgery knowledge and this is indeed something to be proud of because it could save life. However, removing or replacing a part of your body will not make you healthy. Every single parts of our body is there for a reason, once they are removed or altered, there are bound to be some side effects. Surgery approach's main objective is just to save life, so health concerns are casted aside because being unhealthy is better than being dead. Side effects of health could be controlled or suppressed, but the dead cannot be resurrected.
5. When dealing with diseases related to microorganism (virus, bacteria, fungus, etc.) infection, antibiotic and vaccines are modern medicine's answer. These methods have saved countless of life throughout medical history, but what are they actually doing to our body with antibiotics and vaccines? Antibiotic is also a drug that imitates the antibody that our body produces, but at a far inferior quality. Unlike the antibody that our body produces, antibiotics are designed to kill off microorganism through a limited number of methods and since it is an artificial version it is also a foreign substance in our body. As a foreign substance,antibiotics are beyond our body's control, so it is also unable to distinguish between good and bad microorganism. It is just a bomb that kills off the terrorist together with their hostages. Recent cases of H1N1 has also proven that antibiotic approach has a major flaw, which is, it causes harmful microorganism to evolve into stronger breed while weakening our immune system. Antibiotic approach is like a double edged blade without handle, it is still capable of killing the enemy, but you will not escape unhurt. Vaccines on the other hand, are actually weakened version of the original microorganism. Vaccines are injected into our body to force our body to develop antibody blueprints so that when the specific microorganism attacked our body, our body wouldn't be in a shocked state and will be ready to produce the specific antibody to resist them. Vaccination is actually a very clever approach, but I wouldn't consider injecting viruses into our body as a healthy approach. It is undoubtedly a brilliant approach with "prevention is better than cure" in mind, but it will only work if your body is healthy enough in the first place.  Besides, how were the viruses weakened in the first place?  Vaccination comes with hidden risks.
6. Medical checkup technologies and detailed human body knowledge are probably the only truly healthy part of modern medicine contributions.  Unfortunately, healthy diet, regular exercising, drink plenty of plain water and living a healthy life are something that many people had difficulties to implement back into their life.  Life is just too busy for most people, so it is understandable that they would go for the convenience of modern medicine's 'magic' pills.
Having gone through all the different modern medicine's approach in tackling health issue, it is very clear that modern medicine's approach focuses on life saving measures over health restoration measures. In most approaches, modern medicine is willing to sacrifice patient's health in exchange for a temporary release of sufferings or a drastic life saving measure. It is undeniable that modern medicine is doing its best to ease patient's sufferings, suppress life threatening symptoms, increase/prolong patient's survival rate, and saving life of patients, but it is just not making you healthy. Modern medicine may be your life saviour, but it will not make you healthy. Therefore, if you are seeking for health, you should stay away from modern medicine because it doesn't provide your body with what it needs to be healthy. From a doctor's point of view, as long as you are not bed-ridden sick, even if some of your blood test results exceeds/are below normal level or you are having a mild illnesses you are still considered to be 'healthy', but are you really healthy?  It could be too late to restore your health or even life threatening when doctors told you that you are not healthy.
